Once upon a time, before there was such a thing as a blog, this was a web journal. I kept it in my waning years of high school and through the beginning of college, in Iowa, where I stood outside at night and watched everyone smoke cigarettes. I liked how the cinder looked hitting the snow. These run-on sentences about boys and Iowa and spring thunderstorms eventually ended. I grew up, graduated, lived in a kingdom in the sky and an equatorial slum. I worked in human rights and spent a lonely year in graduate school and decided to become a doctor. I’m in medical school now.
I am only here because someone revived my beloved domain name around the time I was feeling a little broken-hearted. And because, while living in that equatorial slum, I took French lessons and learned the word oiseau. It’s my favorite word in any language and, as my first web page was called flightless, I thought it would be a fitting new title.
